MEET THE FOUNDER & ARTISTIC DIRECTOR!
MAKAYLA MONÉT PETERSON
Makayla Monét Peterson is a dancer, choreographer, educator, scholar, and cultural organizer working at the intersection of performance, pedagogy, and community empowerment. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of Monét Movement Productions: The Collective, established in May 2020. She is a 2020 Temple University graduate with a BFA in Dance. Makayla has received residencies and creative support from New Dance Alliance, Downtown Brooklyn, COCO Dance Festival (Featured Choreographer), Gibney Dance’s Black Diaspora Initiative and most recently, the Wynn Mentorship Award for her 2025 Upsurge Dance Festival performance. Her research and creative work have been presented at the Global Caribbean Dance Conference, Caribbean Studies Association Conference, Collegium for African Diaspora Dance and more. Master classes include Temple University, University of Mount Saint Vincent, and Frank Sinatra School of the Arts.Artistically, Makayla seeks create a space for artists to connect, share the unique voice of herself, her dancers, the communities she belongs to/represents, and become a pillar within the dance community.
